Pep Guardiola hits back at Jose Mourinho over ‘tactical fouls’ jibe
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola insists he’s never told any of his players to ‘tactically foul’ an opponent.
Jose Mourinho claimed City were ‘smart’ against teams that play against them on the counter-attack, suggesting they bring down their opponents on purpose.
City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 11 points last weekend with a 2-1 win against United at Old Trafford and the two teams clashed in the tunnel afterwards.
And Guardiola has continued the war of words with Mourinho by refuting his claim that City players make ‘tactical fouls’.

‘I never sent a message to my players,’ insists Guardiola.
‘You can ask any of my players – these players and my old players – if my message on the pitch was to make fouls. I don’t use this kind of message.
‘I don’t know how many fouls we make on the pitch but I think when you have 70% possession we are not that kind of team.’

City can extend their lead over United to 14 points with a win against Tottenham at the Etihad on Saturday.
Kyle Walker is expected to be reinstated to the starting line-up after sitting out City’s 4-0 win against Swansea on Wednesday.
