England defender Harry Maguire has the ability to be a success at Manchester United, according to Leicester City teammate Jonny Evans.

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer after his stellar displays at the World Cup.

But Maguire eventually remained at the King Power Stadium after Leicester demanded a world record fee for the centre-back.

Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton last January but the Foxes wanted a fee in excess of that figure.

Maguire was partnered for the first time by summer signing Evans for the 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

And the Northern Irishman has already seen enough from Maguire to convince him he can make a success of any future career with United.

Physically hes got it and hes good with the ball. His technique is fantastic and I think he proved that throughout the World Cup.

He has great ability and hes very composed. Im looking forward to playing alongside him – if I get the nod. Im certainly looking forward to see him playing more often.

I think if he went to any top club he would fit in no problem. Theres no reason why he couldnt play for Manchester United. Hes got the ability to do it.

In the few days Ive seen him since hes been back, hes obviously an outstanding player.

Its great that weve got players like that at the club so we can all push each other on.

United were eventually unable to acquire a centre-back during the summer transfer window and that failure was exposed during the 3-2 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

But it remains to be seen if Maguire will eventually move to United following a summer full of speculation over his future.
