Lionel Messi set up Aleix Vidal’s goal against Real Madrid in the Clasico wearing only one of his boots
Cristiano Ronaldo might well be the current Ballon d’Or holder but Lionel Messi emphatically staked his claim as the GOAT during Barcelona‘s record breaking Clasico win over Real Madird.
Goals from Luis Saurez, Messi and Aleix Vidal helped Ernesto Valverde’s side win for the third time in succession at the Bernabeu, the first time they have achieved that feat in their illustrious history, and opened up a 14-point gap over Zinedine Zidane’s men in the process.
After thumping home a penalty to put his side two goals ahead in the 64th minute, Messi helped put the icing on the cake in injury time when he waltzed passed Marcelo and crossed low for Vidal, whose low shot bobbled beyond Keylor Navas.
Only afterwards did Messi’s genius become truly apparent when photographs captured the sight of the Argentine wheeling away in celebration wearing only one of his boots – have you ever seen CR7 do that?

Despite the convincing nature of the victory and the enormous advantage Barca now enjoy, Andres Iniesta is refusing to rule the Champions League holders out of the fight for the Liga crown.
‘I didn’t rule anything out before the game and I won’t now, either,’ he said.
‘There are still a lot of points to play for. And football’s shown before than impossible things happen. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

‘We have taken another step forward in La Liga. It’s three more points in terms of our lead over Madrid.
‘And three more over Atletico, too. But beyond the table, you have to congratulate the team.’
