River Island wants more diverse young models for their Kids Squad
After hiring their first child model with Down’s Syndrome, River Island want more young models to join their Kids Squad.
As one of the only few high street retailers looking to diversify the kind of youngsters they represent, River Island want children from all walks of life to apply for two new roles.
Joseph Hale landed his first ever modelling job last year and now the retailer has launched the search for its next child star.
The lucky model will showcase the High Summer collections across their kids and mini range.
River Island took to Facebook to urge parents and carers to submit applications for youngsters who may be interested.
In the video, which features Joseph, two other models from the River Island Kids Squad tell applicants what they do.
‘Get your mum or dad to take a picture of you,’ they explain.
‘Be incredible. Can you dance? Can you make a funny face? Upload your picture.’
Facebook users have been commenting in droves, spotlighting their youngsters.
The post has invited lots of hopeful parents who want their children with a disability to take part in the campaign.
‘This is my daughter Kiyana, she just turned eight and she has Down syndrome. She loves to dance; she’s always the first and last to get off the dance floor, always smiling and full of energy, not at all shy of the camera,’ one mum boasted.
Another post read: ‘Emily is 10 years old and has cerebral palsy. She is the bravest person I know! She is absolute trooper and beautiful inside and out.’
One of the collection of photos included 7-year-old Lily May. Her proud mum wrote: ‘My amazing daughter Lily-May has mitochondrial disease which has left her severely disabled but I think she is the most beautiful thing in the world with the most gorgeous smile!’
If only all the kids could be used for the campaign.
