Alvaro Morata made obscene gesture to Barcelona fans in Chelsea’s defeat at Camp Nou
Alvaro Morata directed an obscene gesture towards Barcelona fans during Chelsea’s Champions League defeat at Camp Nou on Wednesday evening.
Antonio Conte’s side were dumped out of Europe as two goals from Lionel Messi and a strike from Ousmane Dembele sealed a 3-0 victory for Barca.
Morata, meanwhile, started the match on the bench as Conte opted to play Olivier Giroud as Chelsea’s focal point in attack.
The Spain international replaced Giroud in the 67th minute shortly after Messi had netted his second of the evening.
But the former Real Madrid striker quickly received abuse from Barcelona’s fans as his introduction was met with whistles from the crowd.
Barca’s fans also made light of Morata’s struggles for Chelsea this season by chanting: ‘Eres muy malo’, which translates to ‘you’re very bad’.
But Morata delivered his response whilst preparing to defend a corner, as he looked towards Barcelona’s supporters before grabbing his testicles and shaking his hand.
Speaking about his call to start Giroud at Camp Nou, Conte said after the match: ‘For sure when you take this decision to play with Eden, Willian and a striker as a point of reference, you must be very good to have a great balance and not lose this balance.
‘I saw great commitment from all the players, who wanted to play with all our potential.’
