Xabi Alonso names former club as Champions League favourites ahead of Man City
Xabi Alonso believes Manchester City can’t be considered as the favourites to win the Champions League because they ‘haven’t won anything yet’ and insists that Real Madrid are still the team to beat.
The Spaniard has played for three of the eight clubs left in the competition, having enjoyed successful spells at Real, Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Liverpool face Man City in the quarter-finals, while Madrid take on Juventus and Bayern Munich drew Sevilla but Alonso has given his backing to the Spanish giants.

‘They’re a bigger favourite than Manchester City because City haven’t won anything yet.’
Though Real Madrid are many people’s choice to win Europe’s premier competition, it’s been a disappointing season for Zinedine Zidane’s side.
They sit 15 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, but Alonso rejected any call for Zidane’s job to be on the line.
‘Zidane has earned the right to decide what he wants to do about his future after what he has won,’ he added.
