City of London Corporation insurers dinner raises £285,000 for charity
A dinner hosted by the City of London Corporation for the insurance sector raised £285,000 for the Lord Mayors Appeal.
The dinner, which sold out in record time, brought together 530 bigwigs from insurers around the world operating in the London Market, with all proceeds going to youth charities Place2Be and OnSide Youth Zones as well as the Samaritans.
In addition, 10 per cent of the net proceeds of the evening were donated to the Embracing Puerto Rico disaster relief campaign.
City of London Lord Mayor Charles Bowman said: “This is a unique market, one of the pillars of the City of London. It is a perfect demonstration of the creative energy that sets our city apart. Since it emerged 351 years ago after the Great Fire of London, the London Market is the oldest, and still the most important, insurance market in the world.
Dominic Christian, global chairman of Aon Benfield, said: “Very proudly, over 500 members of the insurance community from over 50 companies came together to support these important causes, enjoy each others company and raise the voice of insurance in the City and beyond. No doubt we will do so again.”
