Eddie Hearn has revealed there is doubt over George Groves involvement in the World Boxing Super Series final this summer.

The super-middleweight is scheduled to face off against Callum Smith, but was forced to undergo shoulder surgery after winning his semi-final against Chris Eubank Jr in February.

Groves issued WBSS with an extension request, but Hearn has admitted the promoters were looking for possible replacements.

They [WBSS] are asking people to step in, obviously waiting, Hearn told IFL TV.

I dont know whether George put out that tweet to say Im alright, dont take it away from me.

Its interesting, Im not sure what is going to happen there.

Groves had shoulder surgery six weeks ago and was confident the WBSS would grant him the delay, which would mean the final happened in July rather than the planned June slot.

But, there now seems to be some concern about Groves fitness after the WBSS denied they had agreed to move to date last week.

Kalle Sauerland said: We are currently finalising the dates and venues for our summer Ali Trophy finals #UsykGassiev #GrovesSmith – these are massive finals and we want to get this just right.

Groves has already responded to questions about his fitness, insisting his shoulder is now back to 100 per cent.

This week underwent a 6 week post-op CT scan on the injured shoulder which Im VERY pleased to confirm has healed perfectly, he said.

All united and good to proceed as planned! So a July 7th WBSS final is possible provided a one month extension is granted.

Hearn is part of the board of promoters who advise the tournament and is part of Smiths team.

The super-middleweight final, should it go ahead as planned, will see the WBA (Super) champion Groves take on the unbeaten Smith.

The Manchester Arena was originally booked as the final venue, but it could now be moved to London.
