Amir Khan has revealed watching Anthony Joshuas booming success was part of the reason he wanted to return to boxing.

The Bolton-native is preparing to make his comeback this Saturday after almost two years out of action.

Khan was once one of the biggest names in British boxing, but Joshua now reigns as the undisputed king after a whirlwind two years.

Joshua has averaged 70,000 spectators for his last three fights and Khan explained how he is taking inspiration from AJ ahead of his return against Phil Lo Greco.

You look at these great fighters like Joshua cleaning up, doing really well, knocking guys out, selling out stadiums and Im like, “Wow, this is where I want to be again”, the 31-year-old said.

Ive done it in the past and I want to do it again. I know Ive got a style where the crowd will come and watch me and want to see me.

Fighters like Joshua out there give you that inspiration to come out and do well and sell out stadiums again. Boxings on a high. What Eddies doing, this is what we needed.

British boxing was really dying and Eddies brought it back alive again. I remember the days when I used to fight in America all the time because in Britain, boxing wasnt as big as what we wanted it to be.

In America, I was fighting there because I wanted to make a big name for myself and globally become a star.

Now fighters are coming from America to England because of what Eddies done. Its only making boxing a bigger, better sport.

People respect it more. You walk down the streets and people are talking about boxing.

Khan and Lo Greco will face off in the ring inside the Liverpool Echo Arena, with Eddie Hearn confirming on Thursday that the event was sold out.

Around 9,000 tickets have been purchased by those eager to see Khans return and Hearn even suggested his next fight could be at the 70,000-seater Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Khan is expected to fight long-term rival Kell Brook this year and Hearn is hopeful the interest in that showdown will be enough to justify booking the Principality Stadium.
