Horse Racing Tips: Bee can sting his rivals in Investec Blue Riband Trial
JOHN Gosden has made the Investec Blue Riband Trial (2.45pm) his own in recent years, winning the last three editions, including with the top class Cracksman 12 months ago.
This is a race he likes to target and there will be plenty of punters hoping he can land the four-timer with Crossed Baton.
Frankie Dettoris mount reappeared with a win at Kempton last month and the horse he beat ran respectably in a conditions race at Newbury on Friday.
That form is nothing to write home about, although the son of Dansili must be respected given his trainers excellent record in the race.
Aidan OBrien sends two over from Ireland but he has yet to win this event, with both of his two previous runners finishing fourth.
Im sure his main Investec Derby contenders will be staying at home, so for me the value has to be Mark Johnstons DEE EX BEE at 5/1 with Star Sports who scored at this course last October.
The stable almost won this prize last year with Permian and, like him, my selection is the highest rated in the field.
He ran in some decent races last season, enjoys cut in the ground and wont have any problem with the trip.
This years race is run in memory of the late Anthony Cane, who was chairman of Epsom Downs Racecourse from 2008 until 2016 and sadly died earlier this year after battling motor neurone disease.
Andrew Balding does well at this meeting and I will be backing his CONTANGO in the Investec City and Suburban Handicap (3.55pm) at 5/1 with Star Sports.
The lightly-raced four-year-old knows where the winning post is and conditions look set to be perfect for him this afternoon.
