Horse Racing Betting Tips: Lord looks the right call in Select Hurdle
ANYONE who visits Sandown tomorrow will more than likely witness Altior maintain his unbeaten record over fences in the Bet365 Celebration Chase (3.00pm).
Unfortunately, that fact hasnt been lost on the bookmakers as Nicky Hendersons eight-year-old is just 1/5 to land the Grade One prize for a second year running.
Henderson looks set to have a magnificent afternoon as he has a real chance of also landing the Bet365 Oaksey Chase (2.25pm) with the gutsy Top Notch.
However, he will also be a skinny enough price and Ill instead wait for the same stables CALL ME LORD in the Bet365 Select Hurdle (4.05pm).
We wont know the final runners for this Grade Two prize until later this morning, but I fancy this Sandown specialist can take the step up in trip in his stride and the 15/8 with Paddy Power looks tempting.
The betting is headed by Wholestone, in the same ownership, who has had a long, hard season and may appreciate a lot more rain.
Call Me Lord was an impressive winner on this card 12 months ago and was only denied victory in the Imperial Cup in the shadows of the post last time.
Having sat both Cheltenham and Aintree out, he comes here fresh and can improve on his already impressive record at the track.
Regular followers of this column will remember that I tipped LOUGH DERG SPIRIT at Aintree only for him to be pulled out because of the soft ground.
Well, it would be appropriate if the last race of the national hunt season went the way of Henderson and I still reckon this six-year-old is incredibly well-handicapped if taking his chance in the finale (5.15pm).
He caught the eye in both the Betfair Hurdle and at the Cheltenham Festival last time and gets a decent surface for the first time this season.
With attentions turning to the flat from next week onwards, Sandown have announced the news that Corals sponsorship of the Eclipse has been extended for a further five years.
Thats great news for racing as the Coral-Eclipse is the longest-running sponsored Pattern race in Britain with this years renewal being the 43rd running of the Group One contest.
The prize money has also increased by £250,000 to £750,000 in a deal that runs through until 2022.
The curtain also comes down on the Irish jumps season at Punchestown tomorrow where Davy Russell will be crowned their Champion jockey.
It has been a remarkable season for Russell having ridden the Grand National winner as well as being the top jockey at this years Cheltenham Festival.
The majority of his winners this campaign have been for the Gigginstown House Stud who look to have a major chance in the Champion Four Year Old Hurdle (4.25pm), the finalGrade One of the Irish jumps season.
Farclas heads the betting in most bookmakers lists after his Triumph Hurdle success, but Im keen to oppose him this time with MR ADJUDICATOR, the runner-up that day at Cheltenham.
Willie Mullins has taken all before him at Punchestown this week and I fancy his son of Camacho to reverse the placings on a return to a more conventional track.
Despite coming off second best to Farclas in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham, he beat him the time before at Leopardstown and looks the value at 5/2 to do so once more.
