Mike Ashley reignites old feud as Sports Direct complains about ex MP
Sports Direct has lodged a complaint about the former MP who handled the inquiry into its working standards.
The retailer, founded by well-known businessman Mike Ashley, has submitted a complaint to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards concerning former Labour MP Iain Wright.
The complaint concerns Wright's affiliation with the Unite Union, which had made a donation to him.
The union gave evidence at a committee hearing overseen by Wright in his role as Business Innovation and Skills Committee chair in 2016.
It described the conditions of Sports Direct's Shirebrook factory as "Victorian".
The retailer has now complained that Wright failed to explain the donation fully and that he misled the committee over dates for visiting the factory.
Ashley previously wrote a letter to Wright at the end of 2016, accusing him of visiting the site on a day he knew Ashley would not be present, and creating an "inaccurate impression" through his comments to the media.
