Manchester United captain Michael Carrick pays tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United captain Michael Carrick has paid a touching tribute to his old boss Sir Alex Ferguson after the Scot was rushed to hospital following a brain haemorrhage.
The club have confirmed that the 76-year-old remains in intensive care after undergoing emergency surgery on Saturday, though say the procedure went very well.
Carrick – who will retire and join Uniteds coaching setup at the end of the season – won five Premier League titles under Sir Alex and is hoping he will make a speedy recovery.
The midfielder told MUTV: I was devastated. I got a text on Saturday evening and I couldnt quite believe it. It didnt really sink in. I was just devastated.
Its one of them where you start hearing different things which is quite dangerous and quite disturbing. I just stayed calm and spoke to a few people at the club to get a bit of a rundown on how he was doing.

The whole world showed their support and I was just concerned about him, as an ex-manager and a friend – as he was to everyone. It was the effect he had on everyone. He means a lot to me, as he does to this club.
It was a tough night on Saturday and we were waiting for some positive news. We were all praying for him and thinking of him, Cathy and the family. Its a tough time for everyone but Im thinking positive and hoping he will pull through.
Sir Alex has been inundated with well wishes from the world of football and beyond, and Carrick believes it underlines the overwhelming impact Ferguson had in his career.
He continued: It just shows you the mark of the man and the respect he had. The whole football world is incredible but outside of that as well, from all corners of the globe and different walks of life, people have shown their support. Thats the effect he had on people.
