The moment has arrived: Monzo now supports Apple Pay

Digital challenger bank Monzo said this morning its customers will now be able to use their Monzo cards with Apple Pay.

The bank added support for Android Pay back in October, and said the Apple Pay addition comes after months of clamouring from its customers, who can now use it to make purchases in store, online and in-app.

Monzo apologised for the rollout taking so long, noting it had been "by far the most requested feature" over the past few months.

To use Apple Pay, which has now been added to the Monzo app, customers just need to add their card to the wallet, or from the Monzo app, and can then pay with it across all businesses that accept contactless payment.

Monzos chief executive, Tom Blomfield said:

We know just how much Monzo customers have wanted this, so Im really glad to say that Apple Pay is here! Apple is famous for building beautiful products with simple, intuitive interfaces.

Their design thinking has long been a source of inspiration for us. Monzos mission has always been to make sure everyone can use and manage their money effortlessly, and with Apple Pay we are one step closer to achieving that.

The challenger bank said last month that 94 per cent of the active users of its prepaid card had upgraded to a full current account, although 98,000 customers had not upgraded and are therefore be unable to use the digital challenger bank's services.
