Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are both open to competing in Formula One on the same team in the future amid speculation regarding their respective futures at Mercedes and Ferrari.

With Kimi Raikkonen expected to leave The Prancing Horse at the end of the 2018 season, there is likely to be a vacant seat at the 16-time constructors champions.

Meanwhile, Hamilton and teammate Valtteri Bottas are both out of contract at the end of the current term.

The reigning world champion is yet to put pen-to-paper on fresh terms but the Silver Arrows insist the deal will be signed in the near future.

Such a delay raises the tantalising prospect of both men driving for the same team, a situation which Hamilton would be happy to accept.

Im down to race with whoever, he told the media ahead of the weekends Monaco Grand Prix. Ultimately, I mean Im racing against him in a pretty competitive car which is always exciting but I think for any driver you always want to go up against the best.

I think youve seen in history that it can often be difficult when there are two incredibly strong alphas within a team but youve seen that it seems to kind of work with him and Kimi.

Racing against Fernando, racing against Jenson, and some of the top drivers that I raced with it brings the good and bad out of you.

The F1 season this weekend moves to Monaco.

But I dont anticipate that we will probably be driving together in our time, unless we do, like, Le Mans together one day which we should probably just murder, wouldnt we?

Italian journalist Teo Lurrini claimed last month Hamilton and Vettel could yet swap teams ahead of the new campaign.

But it seems that Vettel would prefer to be partnered with the Briton, who currently leads the drivers championship by 17 points after five races.

I wouldnt mind, the German admitted. Obviously, to be completely honest, Im very happy with the relationship I have with Kimi.

Im pretty sure that Lewiss priority lies with Mercedes. Everything else would be a big surprise but you never know, so we will see.

Maybe, one day, I dont know, we will both go somewhere else because were old. I dont know.

Never say never. For me, at the moment, it doesnt really matter, Im very happy to be where I am for the time that everyone knows. I know and then we will see what happens.
