New Arsenal signing Bernd Leno reveals how Jens Lehmann shaped his career
Arsenal new boy Bernd Leno has revealed how training with Gunners legend Jens Lehmann when they were at Stuttgart together taught him a number of invaluable lessons.
The 26-year-old was announced as Arsenals latest signing earlier this week, completing a £20million move from Bayer Leverkusen, and he is expected to oust Petr Cech as the clubs new No.1.
Ironically, Lehmann was axed on the same day Leno signed as Unai Emery reshuffled his backroom team, though the veteran German has already left a lasting impression on his young compatriot.
He told the clubs official website: When I was a child, Iker Casillas was always my idol.
But when I was at Stuttgart, there were many players, like Timo Hildebrand and Jens Lehmann.

I watched many of Jens training sessions to learn from him. So yeah, they were my idols.
He continued: I had some training sessions with him when I was very young, about 16 or 17 years old.
Jens Lehmann was around 40 years old and for me it was very exciting.
He was so concentrated, so professional and thats the mentality that you need as a professional goalkeeper.
