Sergio Ramos has hit back at Diego Maradona by claiming that Lionel Messi is by far the best Argentine footballer in history.
Earlier this week, Maradona had claimed that the Real Madrid captain was not as good as his Atletico Madrid rival Diego Godin.
But when asked about the Argentines comments after Spains 1-0 victory over Iran on Wednesday evening, Ramos claimed the 57-year-old was a long way behind Messis current ability.
In Argentina they know that Maradona is light years away from the best Argentine player in history, which for me is Lionel Messi, said Ramos.
Spain secured their first victory at this years World Cup following Diego Costas second-half strike, but a defensive Iran were making life difficult for Fernando Hierros side.
