Newcastle winger Kenedy suffered a nightmare day at the office during Newcastles goalless draw against newly promoted Cardiff City.

The former Chelsea stars performances played a significant role in preserving his sides top flight status last season and most Newcastle fans were delighted when his move was made permanent earlier this summer.

After a quiet display against Tottenham last weekend, the Brazilian was in the thick of the action on Saturday but for all the wrong reasons.

The 22-year-old was fortunate to escape punishment after Craig Pawson failed him aiming a kick at Victor Camarasa, which Jamie Carragher branded an obvious red card offence.

He told Sky Sports: I cant see how the referee hasnt seen it. I think he knows something has happened but he has missed it. He should have been sent off.

0 – Kenedy failed to complete a single pass in the first half against Cardiff City – he is the first outfield Premier League player to fail to complete a single pass in 45+ minutes of play since Nikola Kalinic against Birmingham City in March 2010. Passenger. pic.twitter.com/6EZbhRNI9B

Things hardly got better for the Newcastle midfielder, who suffered the ignominy of becoming the first player since Nikola Kalinic in 2010 to complete a half of football without registering a single successful pass.

Still, Kenedy had the opportunity to redeem himself deep in stoppage time but his weak effort from the penalty spot was comfortably saved by Neil Etheridge, triggering a social media backlash…

You've got to feel sorry for Kenedy there he's has an absolute horror. #CARNEW

Kenedy with possibly the worst performance of the season so far first half couldnt make a pass and second he has the chance to win the game for his team and absolutely bottled it ?

Kenedy should have been nowhere near that penalty, Jonjo was the only person to put in any kind of shift today. It's going to be a long season #NUFC #AshleyOut

In terms of the actual game, I had to pinch myself that I was watching Premier League football a few times. Absolutely woeful from both sides, and the ref. Then why on earth Kenedy is taking that penalty is beyond me. Shelvey all day long. #NUFC

Kennedy is absolutely stealing a career! Awful footballer #CARNEW

Cardiff – Newcastle was a poor game. Kenedy was awful and such a bad penalty in the last minute.

Bizarre decisions to give Kenedy the free kick and penalty in the last 5 minutes when Shelvey is on the pitch. Both were awful attempts. ? #NUFC
