Jurgen Klopp has confirmed summer signing Fabinho was left out of Liverpools squad to face Crystal Palace for tactical reasons.

Liverpool spent over £40million to sign Fabinho from Monaco in the summer but the Brazilian midfielder was an unused substitute on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

Many Liverpool fans expected him to make his competitive debut for the club on Monday evening at Selhurst Park, but Fabinho was left out of the match-day squad altogether.

Explaining his team selection before the game, Klopp said: There are normal squad decisions you have to make week in, week out and thats what I did.

[There is no problem with Fabinho], nothing, he is here.

After being benched for Liverpools home game against West Ham last weekend, Fabinho said he was fully aware of the battle he faced to break into the team.

When I came to Liverpool I knew this competition would exist in midfield and I think its really good for the team, he told Premier League Productions during the week.

If anything happens to a player, theres adequate cover. During pre-season I played alongside a variety of different players and we blended really well.

So, overall, I think its a good thing for the team.
