Justin Rose has revealed how Rory McIlroy helped fire up Team Europe after a disappointing morning to get their first ever foursomes whitewash in the Ryder Cup.

The Friday morning fourballs at Le Golf National in Paris saw USA take a 3-1 lead in dominant fashion, and Europe faced an uphill task to get back in the match.

But they responded in incredible fashion to claim all four points in the afternoon session, and a 5-3 lead overnight, and Rose has revealed how Team Europe fired themselves back up after the disappointment of the morning session.

I had a little chat with [Rory McIlroy] in the team room, it was tough loss this morning, Rose told Sky Sports after dominating alongside Henrik Stenson in the afternoon.

So to turn it around was important. I saw my playing partner on the way out and Henrik and I have had great vibes in this event.

Rory just said, “Put some blue on board, give us something to chase.” And we did that.

Europe now need just 9-and-a-half points to win the Ryder Cup, while USA need 11 to retain the trophy, but Europe captain Thomas Bjorn is not getting ahead of himself.

We are one team and we did it with all 12 today. That was the plan. Those guys that sat out this morning Im very proud of what they did because they came out and showed quality, class and this was a wonderful afternoon.

Theres a long way to go in this but we go home with a good taste now and then we regroup for tomorrow.
