History was made in Long Island last night as WWEs inaugural all womens pay-per-view event took place in New York.

The show proved to be one of the best events of the year, as WWEs huge array of talent combined to produce an unforgettable night in front of a hugely appreciative crowd.

In the main event, Ronda Rousey defended her Raw Womens Championship by submitting Nikki Bella at the end of an absorbing match.

Rousey is fast becoming a must-watch competitor, while Bellas big-match intensity teamed perfectly with the former UFC Champion.

Helped by sister Brie, Nikki took control for most of the match, before an intense comeback from Rousey saw the title-holder lock Bella into her signature armbar finisher.

The success of the main event was helped by many unforgettable moments earlier in the show, beginning with a return for Trish Stratus and Lita in the opening match against Mickie James and Alicia Fox.

An injured Alexa Bliss was in the corner of James and Fox, but couldnt stop the veteran pair of Stratus and Lita from picking up the victory.

Lita pulled off a moonsault, while Stratus finished the bout with a Chick Kick.

The match set the scene for the rest of the night, and the crowd definitely helped.

Womens wrestling has been given a huge boost in WWE over the past couple of years and the behaviour of the crowd reflected that change in direction.

This was not an audience expecting novelty, but instead admiring many of the most talented professional wrestlers on the planet.

In the second major title match of Evolution, NXT Champion Shayna Baszler regained the title after Sane passed out during a brutal submission from Baszler.

The two NXT stars have enjoyed a brilliant rivalry, and this was perhaps their best match so far as their styles gelled superbly.

Both wouldnt look out of place on the main roster, and its likely that at least one could make the move before the year is out.

A future opponent for either could be Becky Lynch, who has been one of WWEs best talents this year.

Lynch defended her SmackDown Womens Championship at Evolution against Charlotte Flair in a brilliant Last Woman Standing bout.

The technical and physical bout ended when Lynch powerbombed Flair through a table outside, culminating one of the best matches of the year.
