Alex Hales has set a new record for the highest individual score in a T10 match.

The Nottinghamshire and England opener smashed 87 off 32 balls for the Maratha Arabians in the T10 League in UAE.

Hales made a superb start to his innings but took the power hitting to another level when he struck 32 off one over from Afghanistans Mohammad Nabi.

The 29-year-olds innings helped the Arabians defeat Bengal Tigers by seven wickets in Sharjah.

Hales broke the record less than 24 hours after England team-mate Jonny Bairstow set the benchmark for Kerala Knights.

Bairstow, who scored a century in the final Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, made 84 not out off 24 balls.

The Yorkshireman suffered a blow during the tour to Sri Lanka after losing the wicketkeeping gloves to Surreys Ben Foakes.

But Moeen Ali believes Bairstow can flourish as a specialist batsman at number three.

Definitely, I think he can [make the position his own] after the quality he has shown over the years, Moeen said.

He was always going to get a hundred that day. Hes that sort of guy, he thrives in those situations.

He was obviously a little upset he wasnt playing in the game before but thats what you want from a side, somebody that can step up and come in at three and score a hundred.

Im sure hes going to have challenges going forward but hes always stepped up to them and hes a quality player.
