Alan Shearer slams Romelu Lukaku for being bullied by Virgil van Dijk in Manchester Uniteds defeat to Liverpool
Alan Shearer has slammed Romelu Lukakus performance in Manchester Uniteds defeat to Liverpool and says the Belgian striker was bullied by Virgil van Dijk throughout the match.
Jose Mourinhos side slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Anfield on Sunday, leaving them 19 points behind Jurgen Klopps side in the Premier League.
Lukaku, meanwhile, struggled to make much of an impact and had only 20 touches of the ball throughout the entire match – lower than any United player including David De Gea and the three who were brought on as substitutes.
And Shearer accused Lukaku of hiding from his United teammates as the game progressed.
His [Lukakus] performance was nowhere near good enough, Shearer told BBCs Match of the Day 2 on Sunday evening.
In the first five minutes, Van Dijk gets a huge cheer from the Anfield crowd because he takes him [Lukaku] out of the game.

He bosses the situation and Lukaku didnt want to go near him all afternoon.
Van Dijk bullied him, [Dejan] Lovren bullied him.

Admittedly, the service he got was average at best. But he shouldnt get pushed off the ball like that with the size of him.
I think hes starting to hide now, because he doesnt want to be involved because hes not getting what he wants out of the game.
He shouldnt be bullied in the way he was being bullied today.
