Maurizio Sarri has urged Chelsea to sign Gonzalo Higuain and is happy for the club to sell Alvaro Morata, according to reports in Italy.

Morata has scored seven goals in 21 appearances this season but the striker has struggled to link up with Eden Hazard and has looked short of confidence when on the pitch.

According to Sky Italia, Sarri has asked Chelsea to sign a new striker in the upcoming transfer window and Higuain is top of his shortlist.

Higuain thrived under Sarri during their time together at Napoli, scoring 36 goals in the 2015/16 Serie A season.

Sarri wanted Chelsea to sign Higuain in the summer but the move was vetoed and the 31-year-old ended up joining AC Milan on a season-long loan from Juventus.

Milan paid €18 million (£16.3m) for the loan and have the option to make the deal permanent for €36m (£33m).

But Higuain has struggled for form and has returned seven goals in 17 games so far.

Chelsea would be open to effectively buy out Higuains loan deal and sign him on a temporary deal until the end of the season with an option to buy.

Morata would then be allowed to join AC Milan on a similar arrangement.

Sarri would welcome the arrival of Higuain at Stamford Bridge and in an interview with Corriere dello Sport earlier this season, he described the Argentine as a goal machine.

I miss Higuain a great deal. I miss him because hell keep scoring goals until the day he dies, said Sarri.

He is a goal machine, a systematic and automatic jackpot.
