Guv seeks report from Kerala govt on SC move

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala governor Arif Mohammad Khan has sought a report from the state government for moving the Supreme Court against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act without informing him. The chief secretary has been asked to submit a detailed reply “immediately”.
“Article 166 (3) of the Indian Constitution specifies that the chief minister and his government has to inform the governor about the government business,” Khan told reporters later. The state government had on January 13 moved the top court challenging the act and had sought to declare it as unconstitutional.
“It is not a personal fight between me and the government. I am not important. But whats important is the Constitution and the law of the land… In many of its decisions, the Supreme Court has made it clear that the constitutional powers given to the governor are mandatory,” he said.
Khan said he could not remain a mute spectator.
