Mapped: House prices along the London Marathon route

With runners gearing up for what could be the hottest London Marathon on record, one property marketplace has compiled a map showing average property prices along the 26.2 mile route.

The House Shop used its data to compile the map, which found the most expensive spectator spot is Embankment where the average house price is £1.6m, followed by St James's Park (which notched up the hottest temperature during Thursday's mini heatwave – a scorching 29.1 degrees) at £1.3m.

Embankment was also the spot with the most expensive rental prices, costing around £3,300 a month, followed by Canary Wharf on £2,900.

So for the most part, a prime spot for watching the marathon from the comfort of your own home comes at a rather hefty price.

The cheapest property picks along the route are Woolwich with an average house price of £280,000 and Shadwell at £450,000.

Nick Marr, co-founder of TheHouseShop.com, said: "Despite the London property market experiencing a drop of 0.5 per cent over the last year, property prices in the capital will still make a significant dent in your wallet. It isn't surprising to see Embankment and St James's Park so high up the list. A zone 1 property in such a centralised position is obviously going to come with a hefty price tag."
