Halima Aiden Approves of Etihad’s New Loungewear and Now We Desperately Want a First Class Flight
Airlines offer inflight toothbrushes and toothpaste, eye patches, and even PJs and robes if you're flying on First or Business class.
But Abu Dhabi-based airline, Etihad, has taken it to the next level. Their new loungewear pays homage to the traditional Emirati dress but with a modern twist. Earth colors were used to ensure the collection works on all skin tones and goes with other items of clothing in your closet (so you can mix and match off the plane). The design is simple and elegant and it's made of anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic fabric. Free of excessive stitching and embellishments, you'll also find it's crease-resistant and breathable (because you don't want to be rocking a creased ensemble when you get off the plane).
As expected, the clothes are only be available to First class passengers and guests staying at The Residence onboard the A380 (it's an apartment on the plane, that comes with a living room, bedroom and en suite bathroom).
The airline partnered up with Moda Operandi (an online upscale fashion retailer based in the UAE) and threw one epic launch party, A Night at the Museum, where guests such as Halima Aiden enjoyed the festivities at the stunning Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi.
To get the right design team was a whole other ballgame. The airline hosted a major competition in November 2017 where 71,000 people voted to find the best local talent to design the airline's loungewear collection.
The winners were A Friend of Mine by Xpose, a brand founded by Rawdha Al Shaffar, Buthaina Al Marri and Fatma Al Muddhareb.
