Liverpool have run background checks on Burnleys Nick Pope as the Reds weigh up moving for the goalkeeper, according to reports.

Pope capped a breakout season for Burnley by clinching a spot in Englands World Cup squad as the Three Lions reserve stopper.

The 26-year-old stood in for the injured Tom Heaton at the start of last season, and went on to collect 12 clean sheets and help Burnley finish seventh in the Premier League.

Liverpool are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer, but have been knocked back by their top targets.

Roma star Alisson and Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak are out of Liverpools reach and Jurgen Klopp has been forced to redraw his target list.

The Mirror claim Pope now occupies a spot on that list and Liverpool have already run background checks on the Englishman.

A move to Liverpool would cap a remarkable year for Pope, and the Reds have been enquiring about his personality and mentality.

Liverpool have also been linked with Stokes Jack Butland and Lazio stopper Thomas Strakosha.

Burnley rate Pope at £18million, which would make the former Charlton goalkeeper the cheapest option on Klopps target list.

Liverpool stepped up their pursuit of a new No.1 after Loris Karius horror show in the Champions League final.

Two costly errors derailed any hope of a Liverpool upset and seems to have at the very least lost Karius the No.1 spot at Anfield.

Liverpool have been put off by the asking prices for Alisson and Oblak, but are expected to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
