Anthony Martial has let Jose Mourinho down and is simply not good enough for Manchester United, according to Sam Allardyce.

The France international was handed a rare starting opportunity against Brighton as a result of Alexis Sanchezs injury but failed to seize the chance to impress.

Martial, who was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, was making his first appearance since his manager confirmed he had been fined two weeks wages.

The 22-year-old was hauled off with half an hour remaining and Allardyce believes he has nobody to blame but himself for his lack of development.

Youd look at Louis van Gaal who brought in Martial and it doesnt matter who the manager is, Martial isnt good enough for Manchester United, he told beIN Sports.

If you want to be super critical and look at the players hes got. He is not the player they thought they were getting.

There was a chance where you get a very big young talent for £50million. But we are in his third season and he is no better than when he first came.

He should have progressed. He should be as good as Leroy Sane and people like that. Thats not Joses fault.
