Gary Neville claims Anthony Martial turned down new Manchester United deal for ONE reason

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Anthony Martial has rejected a new deal at the club because he wants the same money as the top-earners at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season, though United have the option to extend his deal by 12 months.

United have been locked in negotiations with Martials representatives for over six months and the club had recently grown confident that the 22-year-old would sign a long-term deal.

However, reports this week claimed Martial had rejected an offer from the club and Neville believes hes looking for a bigger deal.

Im not surprised hes turned down a new deal, Neville told SkySports.

I think its probably the general answer of everybody that gets offered a new contract nowadays, that they turn a new one down.

He probably wants the same level of money some of the other players in the squad are on, he is probably looking at his options externally. From that point of view, at this moment in time, it doesnt surprise me at all that hes turned it down.

Martial is a popular figure with United supporters but hes struggled to win round Mourinho.

Neville has echoed Mourinhos fears and says hes torn whether the Frenchman should stay at the club.

Hes got unbelievable talent, the ability to become one of the best in the world, he just needs confidence, belief and to play in a team thats successful and all of a sudden well see the real Martial, continued Neville.

On the other hand Id look at it thinking his body language isnt great, his movement off the ball isnt great, he does not make enough moves between the right back and centre back.

He doesnt drive at people often enough in the final third and commit them, doesnt actually have great quality when the ball is at his feet and he works his way in from the left.
