Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, 17, killed in J&K encounter after refusing to surrender
SRINAGAR: A 17-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist was killed in an anti-terror operation in Awantipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday after he refused to surrender but chose to engage the security forces in a gunbattle instead, police said.
This is the first encounter in Kashmir in the past 40 days. The last firefight took place in Pulwama's Drabgam area on November 26, where two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed. Police said the slain terrorist was a resident of Arwani area of Bijbehara in Anantnag district. He had gone missing last week and taken up arms.
A video recording of the encounter site shows the 17-year-old's father and relatives urging him to come out of hiding and surrender. "Your mother is dying, I will give you whatever you need and want, please come out," his father pleads. The teen, however, doesn't respond.
